Being appointed as new Music Director of the National Theatre Prague, 34-years old conductor Tomas Netopil added another highlight to his highly successful career. In his first season 2009/10 he conducts Martinu’s Gilgamesh in his inauguration concert as well as the new productions of Idomeneo and Katja Kabanova.
Furthermore he conducts the new productions of Bartered Bride at Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia Valencia and Idomeneo at Teatro Regio Torino and a Don Giovanni-series at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden. In concert Tomas Netopil appears with Staatskapelle Dresden, Czech Philharmonic, Orchestra Nazionale della RAI, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Filarmonica Toscanini Parma, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as well as in Essen, Lucerne, Lugano and Trondheim.
In previous seasons Tomas Netopil debuted at Bayerische Staatsoper München (new production of Busoni’s Doktor Faust), at Salzburger Festspiele (Lucio Silla-production of Teatro La Fenice Venezia) and at Deutsche Oper Berlin (Carmina burana). He conducted concerts with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Genève, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Royal Stockholm Philhar-monic, Oslo Philharmonic, Royal Flemish Philharmonic, Orchestre National du Capitole Toulouse, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre National de Montpellier, BBC Philhar-monic Orchestra, Frankfurter Museumsorchester, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Staatskapelle Weimar and at Teatro Sao Carlos Lisboa.
In Italy Tomas Netopil conducted numerous concerts with Filarmonica della Scala, Accademia Santa Cecilia Roma, RAI Torino, at Teatro Regio Parma, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Comunale Bologna, Teatro Lirico Cagliari as well as opera productions at Teatro Carlo Felice Genova (Cosi fan tutte, Nozze di Figaro), Teatro San Carlo di Napoli (Fidelio), Teatro Regio Torino (Entführung aus dem Serail) and at Teatro La Fenice Venezia (Lucio Silla).
Tomas Netopil studied violin and conducting in his native Czech republic as well as at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with the famous Prof. Jorma Panula, who has taught many prominent conductors. In 2002 he won the 1st Sir Georg Solti Conductors Competition at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, where the jury included Michael Gielen, Gary Bertini, Sylvain Cambreling and Paolo Carignani.
