Young lyrical tenor Otokar Klein made his debut at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie Brussels in 2005/06 with Boris Godunov. In 2006/07, he sang Almaviva in Barbiere di Siviglia at Wiener Staatsoper and Don Pasquale at Opéra de Nice as well as Haydn’s Pauken-Messe in the Frauenkirche in Dresden. Concert-tours led him to Nantes and Angers (Orff’s Carmina Burana) and to Stefaniensaal Graz (Dvorak’s Stabat Mater). In 2008, he will sing at the Teatro alla Scala in Milano and at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin in the production of Prokofiev’s The Player. He is also invited by Teatro Regio Turin to sing in July 2008 Carmina Burana.
In 2005/06 Otokar Klein made his debuts at Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden as Lindoro in Italiana in Algeri, at Teatri San Carlo di Napoli (Schubert Mass in e flat major). In 2004/05 he debuted at Wiener Staatsoper in Barbiere di Siviglia and at Opernhaus Zurich in Bartered Bride. Further more he sang Rosillon in a new production of Merry Widow at the Wiener Volksoper and Ottavio in a festival-production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. At State Opera Budapest he appeared as Léopold (Juive), Quint (Turn of the Screw), Ramiro (Cenerentola) and Almaviva (Barbiere di Siviglia). At National Theatre Bratislava he sang Jenik (Bartered Bride), Nemorino (Elisir d’amore) and Almaviva, at State Opera Prague he could be heard as Ottavio.
For a concert-version of the Cimarosa-opera Gli Orazii e i Curiazii he was engaged ba Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France Paris, together with the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Dresdener Philharmonie he sang Rossini’s Stabat Mater. Together with Slovak Philharmonic he appeared in L’Enfance du Christ in Bratislava and in Dvorak’s Stabat Mater at Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg and Kongresshaus Innsbruck. In a concert-performance of Bellini’s I Puritani he could be heard as Arturo at Royal Opera House Copenhagen and he had successfull guest-appearances with Bartered Bride at Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi Trieste and Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg. Vienna’s opera festival „Klangbogen“ engaged him as Juan in a new production of Massenet’s Don Quichote at Theater an der Wien, which also had a guest-performance at Oper Köln.
Otokar Klein worked together with several renowned conductors such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Fabio Luisi, Tomas Netopil, Kazushi Ono, Jerzy Semkow, Stefan Soltesz or Ralf Weikert.
Otokar Klein studied singing at the Conservatory and at University for Music in Bratislava under Prof. Zlatica Livorova. He also was taught by Kammersängerin Prof. Marga Schiml and Prof. Paola Molinari.
