Jolana Fogasova - mezzosoprano back

In September 2007, Slovakian mezzo-soprano Jolana Fogasova performed a gala concert at the 125th anniversary celebration of the National Theatre Prague. In December 2007 she gives her role debut as Lucrezia Borgia in a new production of the Donizetti opera at the National Theatre Bratislava. The Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie has invited her to sing Eglantine in a concertante performance of Weber’s Euryanthe at the Kölner Philharmonie and the Palais des Beaux Arts Bruxelles. She also sings Judith in a concertante Bluebeard’s Castle by Bartók. She gives her role debut as Marina in Boris Gudenow at the National Theatre Bratislava, as well as singing Carmen, Eboli, Amneris, Santuzza and Fremde Fürstin.

In the previous season she sang concerts with the Bamberger Symphoniker under Jonathan Nott and the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig under Mario Venzago, as well as Dvorak’s Stabat mater under Tomas Netopil with the Slovakian Philharmonic at the Stefaniensaal Graz. She also sang the title role in a new production of Massenet's Cherubin at Teatro Lirico Cagliari and made her role debut as Eboli in Don Carlo at National Theatre Bratislava. In the 2005/06 season she appeared as Amneris in a new production of Aida at National Theatre Prague for the first time and made further successful role debuts at National Theatre Bratislava in the title role of Bizet's Carmen and Judith in Bartok's Bluebeard’s Castle. Important concert commitments took her to the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, the Philharmonie München and the Gewandhaus Leipzig. In the Dvorak-year 2004 she sang a concert performance of Rusalka at the Bayerischer Rundfunk and Biblical Songs at the Norddeutscher Rundfunk. She performed Dvorak’s Stabat mater at the opening concerts of the Rheingau Musik Festival and participated at the National Theatre Prague in a new production of Dvorak’s Vanda, which was also shown at the Wiener Festwochen.

In the previous seasons Jolana Fogasova sang the Fox in Cunning Little Vixen at the National Theatre Prague, the Teatro Sao Carlos Lisbon and the Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, Eglantine in the new production of Weber’s Euryanthe at the Teatro Lirico Cagliari, the title role in the new production of Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans at the Slovakian National Theatre Bratislava, where she could also be heard as Carmen, Charlotte and Rosina. At the Opéra de Lille and the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux she sang Olga in Eugene Onegin, and in Concertgebouw Amsterdam she appeared in the concert version of Richard Strauss’ Die Liebe der Danae.

In concert, Jolana Fogasova has worked with renowned orchestras such as Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Genève, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Münchner Philharmoniker and Rundfunkorchester, Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and has performed at the Festival Radio France Montpellier, the Bregenzer Festspielen and the Brucknerfest Linz. She has sung under the baton of renowned conductors such as Jiri Belohlavek, John Fiore, Janos Fürst, Fabio Luisi, Tomas Netopil, Marcello Viotti, Edo de Waart, Hugh Wolff, Gerd Albrecht, Leopold Hager and Jan Latham-König.

Jolana Fogasova studied singing at the Bratislava University. She took part in master-classes with Carlo Bergonzi in Sienna and received a scholarship from the George London-Funds of the Association of Friends of the Wiener Staatsoper. While a student, she was already engaged by the Slovakian National Theatre in Bratislava.
