In spite
of his young age, Jan Stava already appeared as a soloist on the stages of several
opera houses: at the Estates Theater in Prague, the site of the first
performance of Mozart's Don Giovanni,
he currently sings in a new production of the very same opera the part of
Leporello. At this historical Mozart-Theater he also sang in the first cast
Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail
and Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro. This
summer the Smetana festival engaged him for a new production of Purcell's The Fairy Queen. Afterwards in the summer
of 2012 Jan Stava will participate at the Young Singers Project in Salzburg working
on the parts of Osmin and Sarastro amongst others. Upcoming projects will be Dvorak Requiem in collaboration with
Orchestre National de Lyon, as well as with Beethoven Orchestra Bonn. Due to
his great acting talent Jan Stava was engaged as Osmin for the new production
of Die Entführung aus dem Serail at
the opera houses of Montpellier
and Nantes/Angers.
Jan Stava
won several important competitions, including the Bohuslav Martinu Competition
in Prague,
the Dusek Competition and the Prague Singer Contest. His talent was also
recognized by Jose Cura, who awarded him a special prize for the most gifted
singer of his own masterclasses in Nancy.
His
repertoire includes roles such as Bartolo (Nozze di Figaro), Leporello
and Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Osmin (Entführung aus dem Serail), Foreman (Jenufa), Parson (Cunning
little vixen) and Nikitic (Boris Godunov).
On
concert-stage he sang Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Seven last words of
Christ, Missa Dominicalis and Missa Pastoralis by Brixi and
Dvorak's Biblical Songs.
Jan Stava studies singing at the National Janacek Academy of Music in Brno.
